do u m.i.n.d.s?

posted by crazyyuan

something happened to me.. something i will not call amazing, but v interesting. i was flipping through the papers when i came across an ad on diploma on special education for children with disabilities... that caught my interest and i went abt to research on it. i tried to analyse where this interest came from and could only think of a few reasons.. maybe its the voluneering i have done but stopped at jurong garden sch at minds, maybe its the tv show on channel 8 abt kids with disabilities that affected me v much, how some parents reject their kids, and another type love them so much that their disability simply made their kids more special than different. its weird as i started to think.. maybe i work some more. and go study that course when i have earned enough money.. that i will be a social worker. i noe that its not really that as pretty a picture as on the tv show.. there are many things we do not see on tv. but the enormous satifaction from watching the children is protrayed v well. i would guess thats the sucess of the show, bringing people from their daily lives.. and showing how other people are coping with children that are left behind, but not left out by the society. how wonderful it would be if it happened like this. i see the ad.. i think "this is wat i want to be!" call the ad. take up the program and be a social worker.. if only... never a person whom takes her destiny by her own hands, i wonder if its possible now.. but here is some infomation i found:

http://web.singnet.com.sg/~liewping/Careers.html
How You Can Become A Social Worker

Degree-holders only

If you do not have a social or psychology degree, you can take up a graduate diploma at the National University of Singapore. Admission criteria is a Bachelor's degree and at least one year of working experience in the social services; or such other qualifications and experience as the Senate may approve. The course will take a minimum of 12 months of full-time study or 18 months of part-time study from the commencement of the course.

Career Counselling in Social Work -- The Spore Assn of Social Workers is committed to assist any persons who are keen to consider a career in social work in Singapore. They welcome members of the public, student social workers and current social workers who are contemplating a change in social work practice area to contact them.

as attractive as this path looks attractive to me. i understand the passion must be there.. wat is holding me back now is the passion which i though was there and still there in marketing.. or am i just fickle minded? or is it just a fad in me?. one thing i regret once in a while is not being able to go back to jgs as a volunteer for personal reasons..lol.. perhaps a chance may come again. and i hope real soon :)

You are a traditional person with very simple tastes.
In your opinion, the best things in life are free, easy, and fun.
You totally go with the flow. And you enjoy every minute of it!

Your best friend: The Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Your mortal enemy: The Ham Sandwich

funny.. i ve been tagged.. amusing.. >.<.. but here goes!

Here are the rules:
1. Go to http://www.popculturemadness.com/
2. Select the year you turned 18
3. Get all nostalgic over the songs of the year
4. Write about it
5. Pass this tag onto 5 others

that would be year 2003.. but then.. as at that point of time.. i was more into chinese pop.. i can still remember sharing them with dai dai and shuhui and singing them in class..

but i can remember these few songs that i only know of a few years later:

Stacy's Mom - Fountains Of Wayne
- introduced by xuemei and from her sis..lol amused by story behind the song.. v amusing and happy song..lol never fails to make be chuckle and sing along with it!

Hey Ya! - OutKast
the song that later become the song we hear so often hall 9 videos.. something that represents the generation i think.. still love its catchy turn.. to my amusement.. i can remember myself danceing this song to xuemei *not a good memeory*

Harder To Breathe - Maroon 5
i think maroon 5 was getting popular then.. and these were one of the songs that can be heard over the radio and shopping centers. yes.. even on 933...lol

well i would tag....joan!rosie!feizi!michella! and gunni! (hopefully it works.. cos u guys seldom update ur blog.. let alone read mine..except for one..lol)

i love google and i think thats the next BIG THING!

posted by crazyyuan
recently, i have developed a love for google tools. not only for its simplicity but its usability/user friendly-ness. i do not know how many of you out there are using the google tools.. but one thing i would say is that they really make me feel that they are developed by people who want to make your life easier.. and i am not paid by google to say these!. .. maybe i am just easily convinced/impressed..let my sharing begin

having started working as a telemarketer in my company, it was important for me to keep update on the appts of the sales team as well as the dates available for making appts. they innitally had a white board in the office where every one could keep track of each other's schedule. but as the sale team got bz.. they were seldom in the office and that makes things harder to keep track of. then someone proposed having an calender that can be shared.. so i googled for it.. and to my sweet suprise google calender has that function and is quite easy to use as well.. i took me abt a day to figure it out..but in the end i managed to set up the sale's team's appt schedule. colour coded by person.. include a sg calender for public holidays. it was a simple on.. with reminders by email/sms if u want to include that.. and u could share it with friend/ collegues .. i can imagine..if the whole ntu use it.. most prob students will have each other's schedule so we can book each other for projects!! how mechanical that would be! and i though having an organiser was the most organised i could be.. but with google calender.. u could invite people to view it.. so you can set a time where everyone could meet..lol amazing.. how tech can control our lives.. on the other side.. make things so paperless.. and effortless..

another interesting thing google has (something not new/old) is
google adsense.
google adwords,
google analytics

... at this stage i am still tryinh to understand how all these work! wanted to put some ad sense on my blog.. but i messed up cos i had an acc b4.. and i forgot abt the password..lol anyway.. ad sense is the that add ads to your website , while ad words is one that allows u to buy keywords and attract people to your site.. complicating? i think so.. but as a marketing student.. i really feel that they are good tool to make use of in the world of today.. everyone is googling! comeon.. if one day if u take away google from me.. i will feel v sad.. and left with yahoo?.. i will feel even sadder.. although i can tell they are really trying v hard to pull up their socks..

and next would be
google notebook!
1) Clip useful information.
You can add clippings of text, images and links from web pages to your Google Notebook without ever leaving your browser window.
2)Organize your notes.
You can create multiple notebooks, divide them into sections, and drag-and-drop your notes to stay organized.
3)Get access from anywhere.
You can access your Google Notebooks from any computer by using your Google Accounts login.

that would prob means no more opening up word/ notepad to cut and paste info for reseach!!...lol but later still have to transfer..lol but i htink hassle is truely lessened.. thats all for today! gtg sleep le.. share again next time!

figuring things out!!

posted by crazyyuan
can help but feel left out this time..lol
it always happens.. from sec sch. to jc .. if i want to spot the similarities.. i think i can find it easily..lol
well life is like that too... if u look positive, things will look positive to u.. if u think u are left out.. u will feel that u are left out in no time

talked to a classmate.. real nice gal from marketing.. now considering offers from sincere watch and asian malls and waiting for dfs.. she is like soooooo pro.. working with her in sch projects was a breeze as she always kept us on our toes.. literally.. but it was good..

perhaps its not bad after all.. trying to be positive.. i am sure i will craft my own future (do not sound convincing at all though) right now trying to figure out google adsense and html email blast... its time for "try try will no die "miss yuan to experiment with it software/product/freeware/downloads... wish me luck. of course.. if anyone got advise.. pls give!! need all the help i can get..which html email software is the best?...

a positive though.. or is it just innocent...

posted by crazyyuan
suddenly i had this positive though.. yes.. a positive thought.. which is not common.. i usually have innocent thoughts.. but i hope this one was one of them..

i suddenly recalled the sam leong chef show on tv and the chicken soup for the singapore soul article on the newpaper.. i see how big chefs come about.. chopping veges and cleaning dishes for >5 years before being allowed to learn to cook or cook something.. its these training that tested their paitence and made them into great cooks.. learning the basics of food. the importance of preparations to making a delicious meal...then i thought.. would doing telemarketing.. talking to strangers over the phone everyday make me a better marketer? lol i wonder***

happy day~

posted by crazyyuan
hello people!!
its a saturday.. and i have been sleeping all day.. sad to say.. this week i only made 4 appts.. 1/2 of the number of appts in made last week and 1/3 of my weekly target of 12.. terrible.. but out of work yesterday.. i was very relieved to enjoy some time with stuff that was not related to convincing strangers/would-be-clients to set an appt for meet up. some happy stuff happened over the weekend..

for one thing, yesterday i met up with sarah and nha my fyp mates to write our card for our fyp tutor ap joan c. we met at mac..and chatted for quite some time.. abt sch , life, work, interviews, pay, marriage, families, guys, husbands.. though we were not very close at the begining.. i believe v well some sparks did fly when all of us was under pressure from sch workm fyp and our won schedules,, i am glad we pulled thru and managed to survive with a a- for fyp. which was quite good!! lol

another nice thing that happened today is the lunch at botak jones at tuas.. which my dear and myself stuffed myself to the brim and ended too full for any dinner. before going there.. i surfed around to find this and it was realy wat it looked on the pic!!

this pic came from a site which had many interesting info to surf thru.. food, cute.. here and some v interesting stuff which i discovered from the site..:

will you make the difference?

posted by crazyyuan
i am not afraid to say.. not only this year.. but every year when i really sit down in front of the tv and listen to the ndp song , i will tear ;)mostly becos i am touched and often becos i feel grateful in one way or another. This year's ndp song can be downloaded here

Will You
Music & Lyrics: Jimmy Ye

LYRICS:
will you make this island
Amazing in all ways
surpises in every corner
delightful nights and days

*will you take this country and turn it from a place
To a home that greets your smiles on every face
Will you come on this brave journey
Will you help to make it real
Will you write us grand new stories
Songs that everyone will feel

So will you swim the current
Will you scale new heights
Will you make it happen
Will you let your dreams take flight

Will you write us grand new stories
You must dare to find new ways
Will you let your dreams take flight
You must dare to find new ways

and will you make the difference
Will you seize the day
Will you live each moment
Will you dare to find new ways

will you take this city and turn it from a place
To a home that greets your smiles on every face
Will you come on this brave journey
Will you help to make it real
Will you write us grand new stories
Songs that everyone will feel

so will you swim the current
will you scale new heights
will you make it happen
will you let your dreams take flight

and will you make the difference
will you seize the day
will you live each moment
will you dare to find new ways

dare to find
dare to find
dare to find new ways!

i love this song.. perhaps as singapore is turning another year older.. its time to ask the people.. thats us ..whether we are now mature enough step out of our comfort zone, to make changes, to find new ways, make our dreams come real .. time to not ask wat the country can do for you, but wat you can do for your country. for many years, its been our home, a place we have stayed in.. perhaps its time to venture and seek new ways to improve , protect and develop it!

have u ever thought .. if you were not born in singapore.. but somewhere else.. things would be so much different. the education, the life, the work the opportunities that we have all stood to gain from the moment we sat foot on this little but strong island. We have understood what our forefathers have done..its only through their sweat and labour that this beautiful nation was built.. hence its time we continue it.. not only continue living here.. but seizing each day, opportunity and improving our lives.. do u dare to find new ways? its not about being patriotic, wearing the colours of red and white .. but doing things for the community, improving the quality of life we have.. not through $$ but other ways.

write a grand new story, map a brand new history, create someting we can be proud of to tell our son and grandsons!! (if i could and i would pre- crite each verse..i would probaby end with a long post.. but if you are reading this .. i hope u think thru the lyrics..as lovely as it is meaningful, its probaby the thing we need now to tell the people of singapore.. you can do it! you can make the difference! BUT WILL YOU?)

Hall life | Hall 9 | FOC

posted by crazyyuan
why this post is named Hall life | Hall 9 | FOC is becos i figure.. they all have the same standing.. nothing would survive or ever be the same without each other.. like the spark of life, foc is the welcoming of freshies to hall life, hall 9.. the process which is hall life is the continuation of events and hall 9 is the location where all these take place.. hence these three cant do without each other

foc 2007 is coming again.. although i am graduating this year, i felt that there was something i could contribute to the foc.. hence i helped out with the biz mag stuff.. through out the process.. discussions with a friend..some memories come flooding back..

i would say my entry into hall 9 was not an accidentaly one. my bro lived in hall 9 for 2 semester. with my cousin in the same room in fact. so by r/s, i applied into the same hall..which i got in. during foc, my gl was my bro's gd friend rayner and they often just called me stevie mei..lol which was quite funny.. life in hall was normal and good. but once u took part in foc.. one would feel the bond there among the hall mates.. its simple stuff. like suppers, events, dinners that built up our friendship over the years. unlike in sch where u dun see each other after lesson.. hall is the place where stuff is otherwise.. people see each other when they are the slackest.. not dressed up or as the A student.. just a normal person going to the toilet or canteen to have a short dinner. life was simple but it was good... cos u knew people for who they were.. indeed politics were at ur door step but lol one have learnt to be wise in avoiding them..

say friend's nick.. how he felt that foc was going to be great. could feel his excitiment overflowing, could understand how exhilarating he was that the foc was going to be an exciting one this year.. everyone hopes that this annual event will be a successful one.. for its the introdcution of hall life to freshies..lol and the result card.. would be pple like drew... working very hard to make sure the experience for the freshies will be as good as the one we had expereinced ourselves.. it was that experience that we want freshies to know.. foc is not just an event, but an introduction to the people behind the event.. and the beatiful and meanful memories these people want to pass on.. as they have received from earlier seniors themselves.. the rest such as staying for 3/4 years is up to one. but having introduced the people and life to them... thats our duty and role.. and our honour.. sounding a bit cheesy? lol haha maybe.. but thats true.. cos we are just trying to do justice to wat is considered the most important event of the year.. FOC...HALL 9 LEGACY THE REST DONT HAVE IT

to add.. i was never an impt or near- impt person in hall.. compared to many, i was just a normal subcom member(but one of the happiest memories is being a gl in foc!).. maybe its becos i live in 45.. the most isolated/lao ren block.. we were not the most up to date or the most enthu people around..lol but i found my close grp of friends and cherished their friendship dearly... and maybe becos i was not that involved in jcrc.. i was able to stand back/takepart and appreciate and enjoy(thanks to them) events that was painstakeing planned and held...nothing comes easy.. those in the com would know.. but the most impt was to believe that u were doing something for hall.. not something everyone will appreciate or recognise.. or even people understanding ur reason behind it..but that was something many pple did not give up on.. here i salute to these pple, appreciating all u have done. Things would not have been the same with out u all. may the hall 9 legacy live on!

cab ride

posted by crazyyuan
it was interesting today.. offically the first day of telemarketing.. a few days i did some callings.. got one lucky newbie appt.. so when i started to day i set a target of three... but sadly.. i din not even reach one.. zzzz

well then its enough of work i headed to jp to have dinner with mel and drew. after which was giant five icecream at scoopz.. and the two setted out combing guadian and ntuc for companies to target for foc goody bag.. pretty hard working.. putting in the best effort i could see..
after which me and mel left for ntu on the cab.. where we had to go thru a journey with the driver who couldnt wait to tell the both of us how many As his son had, what jobs they had.. how early they got it.. how important it was to have As, and how with my lousy Cs and Bs i would most prob end up with merit... no As.. mean i will not be even near second low.. at MOST merit.. i was so amused.. there an uncle was telling me that his accoutant sons have done him v proud and i will def not get my honours...probably i deserve it.. and too i wish i did my parents that proud.. :(
